From Wet to Dry and Dry is Good!

It has been much too long since I have posted anything and I am back to sharing  our mission experiences.

We are pretty much settled  in the new mission home and it feels so good to have some sense of order   in our lives.  The flood bins are finally  emptied out.  We are very grateful for the support of so many who have helped us move in.  The neighborhood is very friendly.  Our first week here, a cute young couple from next door came over to welcome us into the neighborhood.  They gave us a bottle of wine to welcome us.  I thanked them for it and invited them in and we began to visit.  I explained to them  why we were here and if they had heard of our church before.  He said yes and that he had worked with some members before and he knew we didn't drink wine so as they were leaving he said he would take it back.  He was very kind about it.  We have some amazing neighbors and are excited to be here.

We have been blessed with absolutely incredible missionaries.  How we love them and are grateful for who they are and how well they have been taught.

November 16th we had New Missionary Training where the new missionaries who have been out around 4 weeks come with their trainers and we meet with them and continue to help them learn and become effective missionaries. There was such a strong spirit in that meeting.

The week before that we were able to attend a Mission Presidents Seminar with all of the other mission presidents and their wives for training. It was such a spiritual feast to say the least!!! (No rhyming intended.).

October 24 we sadly said goodbye to three elders and three sisters.  It can be hard to see them go.

Then this past week all of our family came for Thanksgiving.  Liz received her endowments at the Dallas temple which is almost 4 hours away.  Needless to say we are very very incredibly spoiled living in Centerville and having so may temples sooo close to our home.  However,  just being together was the best!  Liz leaves January 17th for her mission to Tuscon Arizona.  She will be a very powerful missionary and we couldn't be more excited for her.  (The rest of the family stayed home the  babies)

We are anxiously awaiting for December 1st to begin to help "Light the World" here with the missionaries in Houston.  The work is truly progressing and we are seeing the positive effects of Hurricane Harvey as hearts have been softened and the example of "Mormon Helping Hands' has been influential.

I love you and appreciate all of your love and support and prayers which have carried us through, especially all of those weeks when it got a little wet.  We were damp, but our spirits were not dampened because of your prayers and love.  The Savior is mindful of us all.

I love the Savior, I love my family, I love our missionaries, I love Houston, and I love you!

A Miracle of Miracles

I decided this week to go back one more time to our mission home which was destroyed by the flood. As I pulled into the driveway I was not expecting to feel the flood, yes the flood of emotions that went through me.  I wept as I walked into what was the most beautiful home just two months ago and the spirit in the home which was so tangible.  This was to be our home for the next three years and it had felt so peaceful.  It was in a beautiful neighborhood with lots of gorgeous trees and pathways to walk or bike. There was a stabbing pain inside of me as I walked through the home that day.  It didn't make any sense.  What had just happened?  Nothing in the home had belonged to us except for some sentimental things we had brought with us.  Everything was gone. Although we had only lived there two months, it was as if I needed closure for some reason.  I walked around still in shock of it all.  The pictures below show what the mission hom...

Count Your Many Blessings.........

A little more detail regarding yesterday's sacrament meeting.  Four wards met at the Kingwood stake Center.  Most were wearing the yellow "Mormon Helping Hands" shirts.  Sitting on the stand and looking over the 400 plus members who had gathered together to partake of the sacrament was indeed something never to be forgotten.  The service began with "Count Your Many Blessings" which has taken on a whole new meaning after yesterday.  Men and women wept as we sang this song together.  Many have lost everything.  The words of this song are worth repeating.  As you read these words, imagine the strength, comfort, and encouragement from the Savior that was felt as we sang these inspiring lyrics. When upon life's billows you are tempest-tossed, When you are discouraged thinking all is lost. Count your many blessings; name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord has done. Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the cross se...

Day of Service

Today was an amazing day!  Having a 30 minute Sacrament meeting was awesome followed by a day of service! The 14 missionaries which were in Lake Charles, LA have now been moved back to Vidor.  So 8 of the 14 missionaries are back in their regular apartments in Vidor.  The 6 missionaries from Beaumont will hopefully be moving back to Beaumont tomorrow or the next day.  We still have a threesome from Orange who have been in Welsh, LA. and should be able to move back to their apartment on Tuesday. It has been quite eventful. Check out www.facebook.com/texashoustoneast for photos of today's service activities.
