Letting Go of Pride

There is not a picture to go along with this story but the story is still worth telling!  Learning when and what to feed missionaries has not come as easily as hoped for.  There isn't a manual on what meetings they need food, or what to feed them for a meal, and or what to feed them for breaks at the various meetings they attend.

After looking through pictures of past meetings, after asking the assistants multiple times of what, when and where, it came down to crunch time.  The missionaries needed lunch for a training meeting to be held in a couple of days.  There would be 50 missionaries needing lunch.  There seemed to be a shortage of people to help with this lunch.  Wanting and thinking it had to be all homemade with a beautiful centerpiece and maybe even a theme, panic set in.  The reality was that it had to be simplified, big time.

So swallowing pride, it was necessary at this point to let go of the idea and plans to have a delicious home cooked meal for the wonderful and much loved Elders and Sisters.  It was going to have to be the closest Dominoes pizza that would deliver.  Ouch.  Hopefully the missionaries would survive.  Pride was such an issue.

The church address was given to Dominoes and  we awaited their  arrival.   They showed up and the deliverer "just happened" to be a darling woman who used to be an active member  of the church but had not been coming for quite awhile due to a rough patch in her life.  She said her name was Alexis and that she had been wanting to come back to church and just hadn't done anything about it.  She said she wanted her husband to learn about the church and also that her father was recently baptized in Houston.  Also, the missionary couple that saved the day in helping out,  happened to be in the ward where she now lives.  There aren't words to describe what was happening as Alexis was eager to share her phone number and address with the Sr. missionary couple and expressing her desire to come back now.

Coincidence?? Absolutely not.  It was meant for her to deliver the pizza that day to the church which she used to go to.  Incredible.  The Lord knows all and is so very aware of all of us.

From now on Pizza won't be such a bad choice after all.  Who knows?  The next person to deliver pizza may be someone waiting for an invitation to come or to come back.  It was such a gift to be apart of something so small yet something so big.

#Liftandlove

By the way, the pizza was a huge HIT!  No more pride....at least regarding feeding missionaries.

Not every day you see an armadillo on the side of the road enjoying the sunlight.  :)

Here are some pictures from Sunday.

Count Your Many Blessings.........

A little more detail regarding yesterday's sacrament meeting.  Four wards met at the Kingwood stake Center.  Most were wearing the yellow "Mormon Helping Hands" shirts.  Sitting on the stand and looking over the 400 plus members who had gathered together to partake of the sacrament was indeed something never to be forgotten.  The service began with "Count Your Many Blessings" which has taken on a whole new meaning after yesterday.  Men and women wept as we sang this song together.  Many have lost everything.  The words of this song are worth repeating.  As you read these words, imagine the strength, comfort, and encouragement from the Savior that was felt as we sang these inspiring lyrics. When upon life's billows you are tempest-tossed, When you are discouraged thinking all is lost. Count your many blessings; name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord has done. Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the cross se...

Day of Service

Today was an amazing day!  Having a 30 minute Sacrament meeting was awesome followed by a day of service! The 14 missionaries which were in Lake Charles, LA have now been moved back to Vidor.  So 8 of the 14 missionaries are back in their regular apartments in Vidor.  The 6 missionaries from Beaumont will hopefully be moving back to Beaumont tomorrow or the next day.  We still have a threesome from Orange who have been in Welsh, LA. and should be able to move back to their apartment on Tuesday. It has been quite eventful. Check out www.facebook.com/texashoustoneast for photos of today's service activities.

The Spirit of the Work Continues.......

I would just like to share that President Benson's statement of "We must flood the earth with the Book of Mormon" has taken on a whole new meaning.     Donna and Mike with their family. Barbaraand all of us getting to help her.  She was so grateful! The process of cleaning continues throughout many parts of the Houston area.  People who need help go on a website and sign up. Then that information is filtered to service organizations, the Church being one of those.  We meet at the stake center and are given an address of who needs help.  We are assigned a team leader and go out in groups of about 15 and clean out the flood damaged homes  The term they use is "muck out" which means the sheetrock and insulation needs to be removed about a foot above the flood line and then  remove the nails from the studs. Everything is put out on the curb to be picked up by large trucks for removal.  It is...
