Hurricane Harvey - T.H.E. Mission - Happy Sabbath!

Good morning,

As of 8 am, all of our missionaries are safe and accounted. Three of the five stakes have cancelled all church meetings. The outlying stakes over in Beaumont and Orange have not cancelled their meetings as the weather has been more mild over there. All missionaries have been instructed to stay inside today, unless they are over in the Beaumont and Orange stakes.

No apartments have lost power or have flooded over night. We are in the process of gathering data from the missionaries regarding potential apartment flooding issues and back up plans to put in place to move certain missionaries that may be impacted by potential flooding to their apartments. But as I said, all missionaries are safe and accounted. They will be studying certain conference talks today in preparation for upcoming events in our mission.

A Miracle of Miracles

I decided this week to go back one more time to our mission home which was destroyed by the flood. As I pulled into the driveway I was not expecting to feel the flood, yes the flood of emotions that went through me. I wept as I walked into what was the most beautiful home just two months ago and the spirit in the home which was so tangible. This was to be our home for the next three years and it had felt so peaceful. It was in a beautiful neighborhood with lots of gorgeous trees and pathways to walk or bike. There was a stabbing pain inside of me as I walked through the home that day. It didn't make any sense. What had just happened? Nothing in the home had belonged to us except for some sentimental things we had brought with us. Everything was gone. From Wet to Dry and Dry is Good!

It has been much too long since I have posted anything and I am back to sharing our mission experiences. We are pretty much settled in the new mission home and it feels so good to have some sense of order in our lives. The flood bins are finally emptied out. We are very grateful for the support of so many who have helped us move in. The neighborhood is very friendly. Our first week here, a cute young couple from next door came over to welcome us into the neighborhood. They gave us a bottle of wine to welcome us. I thanked them for it and invited them in and we began to visit. I explained to them why we were here and if they had heard of our church before. He said yes and that he had worked with some members before and he knew we didn't drink wine so as they were leaving he said he would take it back. He was very kind about it. Day of Service

Today was an amazing day! Having a 30 minute Sacrament meeting was awesome followed by a day of service! The 14 missionaries which were in Lake Charles, LA have now been moved back to Vidor. So 8 of the 14 missionaries are back in their regular apartments in Vidor. The 6 missionaries from Beaumont will hopefully be moving back to Beaumont tomorrow or the next day. We still have a threesome from Orange who have been in Welsh, LA. and should be able to move back to their apartment on Tuesday. It has been quite eventful.
